In case you pretty petunias didn’t know, MAC cosmetics has a great program called Back to MAC that can get you a free lipstick for recycling your old cosmetic cases. Just save up 6 empty MAC containers, (they can be foundations, lip glosses, eye shadows, whatever) and bring them to any MAC store to exchange them for a free lipstick! You can also send them in and order your lipstick online if you don’t have a MAC near you. Check out www.MACcosmetics.com for the details on the Back to MAC program!
Good Bronzer from our Beauty Expert

Need a good bronzer for the summer? Why not invest in one that’s healthy for your skin? Korres, a natural Greek skincare and cosmetic company, makes a Monoi Oil Bronzer ($28) that is naturally hydrating and healthy, and gives a beautiful glowing color to your complexion. While it only comes in two shades, Sunglow Light and Sunglow Warm, the bronzers are made with no parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, petroleum byproducts, propylene glycol, ethanolamine or synthetic dyes, which make them much better for the skin than most. Plus, the monoi oil is noncomedogenic, so it won’t break you out, (trust me, I break out from everything!). Bonus for my fair-skinned femme’s, who are scared of looking fake: the Sunglow Light is the perfect, natural glow that’s never too dark, no matter how much you put on!
Stylish and Affordable Beach Bags from our Fashion Expert

Going to the beach DOES mean you should leave your pretty leather purses at home, but that doesn’t mean you have to drag your mom’s L.L. Bean sack from the 80’s to the beach with you. Cute beach bags do exist! While some designers continue to charge and arm and a leg, there are plenty out there that are very generously priced and stylish to boot! Not to mention more and more designers are going the eco-friendly route. Also, the canvas bags double as grocery totes and gym bags…Just make sure you wash out any sand and sunscreen remnants!
Marc By Marc Jacobs Large Pocket Canvas Tote – $84 (sale)
Charlotte Ronson Seventeen Organic Tote – $33.60 (sale)
Mad Imports Ile Ste. Marie Straw Tote – $85
Felix Rey for Target Large Canvas Tote – $31.48 (sale)
Going Green update from our Beauty Expert

Check this out: there is no national standard to regulate what the term “natural” means, so companies get to decide internally what their definition will be. This means that they can make those guidelines as stringent or as lax as their own morals; I don’t know about you, cupcakes, but I don’t necessarily trust some bigwig CEO to value quality, eco-friendly ingredients over saving a couple bucks on the cheap stuff. Just be aware and read your labels; stay tuned for my column on chemicals to avoid if you’re trying to go green!

Going Green on skincare

I’ve got a pretty major heads-up for my green gals out there. Be aware of cosmetics and skincare that contain silicone, or any silicone derivative—this stuff is not biodegradable, so it never breaks down. While it isn’t necessarily harmful to your skin, it will remain in our environment in its current form for-ev-er. It’s basically like Styrofoam for the face and we all know what a no-no that is.
