Whats the perfect look for a night on the town?

My favorite makeup look is the Smoky eye.  It is sexy mixed with a hint of sophistication. You can create a light smoky eye for the daytime and a dark smoky eye for a night on the town.

Time Required: 5 minutes

These instructions will show you how to create the perfect smoky eye.

Keep your eyes open while applying; this trick will help you verify that you’re applying everything in the same areas on both eyes so you get an identical look for both sides.

The key to the ideal smoky eye is all in the brush.  Try to use a larger blending brush, so it spreads the eye shadow evenly across your lid.  I’ve love MAC’s blending brush #217, but you can use anything, as long as it has thicker bristles.  This will help add to your flawless look.

The secret of the smoky eye is placing the darker, richer color on your eyelid and the lighter color closer to your brow bone.

Some great color combo’s include soft gold on the upper brow bone with a deep purple or mauve on the lid, neutral with shimmer on the upper brow bone with navy blue on the lid and peach with shimmer on the upper brow bone with green on the lid.

·         Start by prepping the lid. You don’t want those eye shadow creases after a few hours. Start off with an eye shadow base, known as a primer. Dab a little of Urban Decay’s Primer Potion on your eyelids before creating your sexy look.

·         Sweep the lightest eye shadow in your color palette all over your brow bone. This will soften your look so it’s not as intense, but rather classy. I like Dazzlelight by MAC if you’re going for the darker smoky eye.

·         Apply a light shimmer color on the corner of your eye (closest to your nose.)  This will give you a subtle highlight, which will help offset the smoky look.  I like Paradisco by MAC if you’re continuing with this look.

·         Apply the medium/dark eye shadow from your lash line to the crease of your eyes and blend well.  (Don’t forget to keep your eyes open!) I like Carbon by MAC for that darker smoky eye.

·         Apply eyeliner. If you’re going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above you’re upper lashes.  The line should be thicker in the middle of eye, for a more dramatic look. If you’re going for a more daytime look, I would suggest a green and gold color palette with brown eyeliner.  It’s a classy and softer look.

·         Any mistakes can be fixed with Q-tip and some makeup remover.

·         Now’s the time to add fake eyelashes if you so choose.  This could add length and will add to your look by providing a striking effect, whether the look is natural or dramatic.

·         Complete your look with mascara. I like Dazzle Lash by MAC for that starburst dazzle effect.

o        If you’re doing a multi-color smoky eye – use colored mascara – this will truly make your eyes pop.

Hints

Ø       If you’re doing a dark eye, lighter lips are key and vica versa.  You only want one focal area when it comes to strong makeup or you end up looking overdone.

Ø       If you are using liquid liner, then you can put dots on the lash line and use those as your guideline for creating a straight line.

Ø       Use a finishing spray to set everything in place
